In a recent interview with Ioha’s Lazer 103.3 (below), Taylor speaks about the political stalemate over climate change, and shares his reaction to the fact that Trump is running for president and actually leading the Republican nominations.
“Everybody’s B.S.ed themselves into thinking that, ‘Oh, the worst of it’s in the future.’ No, we’re living it. You know… Oh, God, it sucks,” Taylor says.
“The fact that Donald Trump is a real candidate for the presidency of the United States of f**king America. Are you kidding me?! What?! Okay.
“At this point, let’s just nominate [American entertainer and comedian] Emo Philips too. Philips [and fellow comedian] Pauly Shore 2020.”
When Lazer 103.3 host Andy Hall tells Taylor that this is the direction the US is heading, Taylor counters by suggesting he’s keen to get up and leave his home country.
“It ain’t the direction I’m moving. I’m emigrating,” Taylor says. “England’s too expensive — that was my first thought. ‘Cause I’ve actually priced out real estate there. England’s way too expensive, so I might end up in Guam or something, I’ll just build a hut.
“There are tonnes of islands in Belize that you can buy. I actually looked this up, because, for, like, five seconds, I was, like, ‘I’m gonna buy an island. Screw these people.’ And there are Caribbean islands for sale.
“I don’t even know if this still exists anymore, but I could have bought a half-natural for, like, five hundred thousand U.S. dollars, by the way.
“Unfortunately, I would have had to build a hut there, because there was nothing there… There’s no running water, there’s no wiffee [by which he means wi-fi]. I can’t watch my shows without wiffee!”
While Taylor mentions Trump’s escapades in the interview, he doesn’t mention those of Kanye West, whose presidential campaign is scarily similar to Trump’s in some ways.
Trump’s presidential bid was also criticised by R.E.M. earlier this month after the billionaire using the band’s hit song End Of The World without asking permission. Not that R.E.M. would have let him if he had asked, anyway.
