Corey Taylor Has Huge Plans For Slipknot’s Next Album

Slipknot‘s 2014 album .5: The Gray Chapter is still fresh in our ears, but the band’s frontman, Corey Taylor, has even bigger plans for the group’s next full-length effort.

In a recent interview with New York’s Q103 Albany radio station, Taylor says the next Slipknot album could not only be a lengthy concept album, but could also be released alongside a feature film.

“The idea that we had was to kind of come up with the concept and then provide the soundtrack for it,” Taylor says in the interview.

“But then I told them the other day, I was, like, ‘Let’s take it even further and let’s make our [Prince’s] Purple Rain, let’s make our Pink Floyd The Wall, with a movie — not just the album, but do the movie, do everything. And they were pretty into it.”

Slipknot are planning to “take a couple of years off” following The Gray Chapter and its accompanying world tour, and Taylor says we shouldn’t expect work to begin on the next album anytime soon.

“It’s gonna be a few years until we even get into that, but just the fact that we’re laying the steps for it now just means that we’re right back to where we were, which is just being five steps ahead of the game.”

In June this year, Slipknot’s Shawn “Clown” Crahan told the BBC that he’d like the next Slipknot album to be “an art record”.

“We’ve gotta write our Wall [like Pink Floyd], our Kid A [like Radiohead], our Sgt. Pepper‘s [like The Beatles], whatever you wanna say. And that’s where I’m at,” Crahan said. “I’d love it if we could do a double album.”

One thing’s for certain — Slipknot’s next album won’t feature ANY of what Corey Taylor calls today’s “insulting” pop music. Catch his full interview below, which has been overlaid with footage of kittens for some unknown (but brilliant) reason.
