Cold Chisel Reclaim Ownership Of Songs, Start Own Label For New Releases

After spending close to four decades with Warner Music, Aussie greats Cold Chisel have announced they will be continuing under their own imprint. Cold Chisel Music will now be home to the bands entire back catalogue, the rights to which recently reverted back to the band, and will facilitate reissues and future releases from the band’s camp.

The split between the band and Warner (known as WEA when The Chisel first signed to them) seems to be nothing but amicable with the group acknowledging the association as fruitful. For 35 years the two parties have succeeded in creating Australian rock legacy which, judging by the 300,000 tickets sold to their 2011 Light The Nitro Australian tour, is as relevant today as ever.

The imprint will focus solely on reissuing the band’s own music, including their back catalogue and, in the coming months, will release an album of live recordings from the uber successful tour and there’s also the possibility of some brand-new material surfacing in the near future.

Barnsey has commented on the move, stating:

“We’re proud of all the albums we’ve made and the impact the band has had and we’re keen for people to keep discovering Cold Chisel’s music. We think that having our own label will give us the best shot at doing that”

On top of this, the band have also jumped ship in terms of distribution, teaming up with Universal Music Group bringing plenty of fresh eyes and fresh ideas into the campaign.

All of this will be effective as of Tuesday, 1st October. Cold Chisel have clearly still got some hunger left in ‘em.
