BBC Radio 1 and its DJ Zane Lowe have been tasked with curating a brand new soundtrack for the 2011 Ryan Gosling film Drive, and acts like Chvrches, Banks, SBTRKT and Bring Me The Horizon are amongst its contributors.
Each of the artists will be creating brand new songs for the project, Radio 1 Rescores: Drive – Curated by Zane Lowe. Other artists involved, according to NME, include Foals, Jon Hopkins, Laura Mvula, The 1975, Baauer, Bastille, Eric Prydz, The Neighbourhood and ZCC, aka Simon Neil of Biffy Clyro.
On October 30th at 10pm on the UK’s BBC Three, the film will be broadcast with the option for viewers to switch between the original soundtrack and the new curated selection. An Australian television premiere has yet to be announced but to be perfectly honest that’s never stopped Aussie viewers before.
“Honestly, this is the most exciting thing that this show has ever been involved in,” said Lowe of the project. “It’s the most ambitious, awesome thing we’ve ever done. We’ve been working on it all year and we’re super-proud of it – you don’t want to miss this!”
Today Chvrches have released their contribution to the score, Get Away. “We were really excited because musically, the kind of music in the original score fits in with what we are doing,” lead vocalist Lauren Mayberry told Lowe.
The original Drive soundtrack was acclaimed by both fans and critics when they film debuted in 2011. It featured music from Cliff Martinez, Kavinsky, Chromatics and College featuring Electric Youth.
Drive‘s director Nicolas Winding Refn has also thrown his support behind the project. “I consider it a great honour that my movie Drive inspired so many wonderful artists to come together and create one ultra-cool glam experience.”
