Chvrches’ Lauren Mayberry Continues Her Campaign Against Online Misogyny

Chvrches singer Lauren Mayberry has once again turned the spotlight onto the disgusting threats of physical violence she continues to receive online. This time around, though, she’s shamed one individual who recently threatened her with rape.

Posting to her personal Instagram account, Mayberry has shared a vile comment which was originally sent to the Chvrches Instagram account, and followed the comment with a statement, calling out the actions of similar individuals and saying that she will be firmly standing her ground.

Mayberry’s statement reads:

My band is lucky enough to have some of the most awesome, supportive and respectful fans in the world and we are so excited to be in the studio making an album to share with them. Yet, on a daily basis, we still receive communications like this. These people never learn that violence against women is unacceptable. But they also never learn that women will not be shamed and silenced and made to disappear. I am not going anywhere. So bring it on, motherf**kers. Let’s see who blinks first.

Mayberry later shared the comment and her statement via Twitter (below), reiterating the words, “Let’s see who blinks first,” and making public the name of the offender’s Instagram account.

In 2013, Mayberry published an editorial about “online mysigony” in The Guardian. In her piece, Mayberry said she was disgusted at the reaction she faced after asking for people to stop sending her lewd Facebook comments.

“Comments [ranged] from the disgusted and supportive to the offensively vile,” she wrote. The editorial was later applauded by Paramore’s Hayley Williams.

Chvrches have spent much of 2015 working on their second album, which will be the follow-up to 2013’s The Bones of What You Believe.
