Ahead of the release of his first solo album in six years, Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell has offered up a first taste of his new full-length effort, with the heartbreaking new single Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart.
Cornell’s latest solo track is a move away from the pop tones of his previous album, Scream, and is the first sample to be taken from his forthcoming album, Higher Truth.
Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart sees Cornell working with disparate tones, including strings, mandolins and psychedelic guitars, and it comes complete with some heartfelt lyrics.
“I nearly forgot my broken heart / It’s taken me miles away,” Cornell sings. “From the memory of how it broke apart / Here we go ’round again.”
Earlier this month, Cornell said he is “always be open” to making new music with American rock supergroup Audioslave, which he founded with former Rage Against The Machine members Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk.
