Shepparton rap dynamo Briggs is about to make his foray into the wonderful world of television. The MC revealed that he’s set to star in a drama called Cleverman, which airs on the ABC next year.
The six-part series, commissioned by ABC TV’s Indigenous Unit, has been described by the network as “a sexy and dangerous sci-fi drama set in the near future, where two Indigenous brothers fight for survival in a dystopian landscape”.
Briggs explained a bit more about the show to triple j in an interview: “It’s really hard to explain because it’s so detailed and in-depth,” he said. “All I know is that the dude from Game Of Thrones is in it… I’m [most] excited about him being in it.”
The aforementioned “dude” is Iain Glen, better known as
Captain Friendzone Jorah Mormont on the smash HBO series, the recently scaly-armed follower of Daenerys Targaryen who fell out of favour with the young Queen due to his being a bit of a spy-ie douche.
Joining Briggs and Glen on the Cleverman roster is Golden Globe nominee Frances O’Connor from The Missing and Stef Dawson, whom you might know better as Annie from The Hunger Games movies.
The series started shooting in Sydney during April, and Briggs shared a little behind-the-scenes action on his Instagram (below).
Briggs has also just released a new video for his Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu collab The Children Came Back in honour of NAIDOC week, which celebrates the achievements of a variety of Indigenous Australians.
And while he stopped by the triple j studio, he also dropped a bonus weather rap, spitting lyrics about his hometown of Shepparton, Victoria in a re-work of Kanye West’s All Day dubbed Sheppression aka Sheplife Brigga.
