Brandon Flowers Says The Killers’ Last Album “Wasn’t Good Enough”

The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers has assured fans the Las Vegas group will be back in the future, saying they have to make another album because their last one “wasn’t good enough.”

The Killers released their last album, Battle Born, in September 2012, and brought it to Australia the following year. Reception to the record was mixed, but according to the band’s frontman, the album simply wasn’t up to scratch. “We all know it,” he told NME.

“Once [the band] all get on the same page, it’ll work,” he added, before joking, “I need to persuade them to like the same things as I do.”

Killers drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr added, “I don’t fear the end of The Killers – if it’s over, it’s over. We scratch those [creative] itches [with side-projects]. I get a good feeling knowing Brandon is out there doing that too. I hope the other two [Keuning and Mark Stoermer, bassist] do it. It gets weird sometimes when we starting talking about our s**t with the other two.”

Speaking to Rolling Stone recently, Flowers seemed more positive about the band’s future, but did admit they might need a little extra motivation.

“When we’re all collaborating, is when the Killers are at their best, and that’s what we really need,” he said. “I’ve said it before – I think we need a little bit of a kick in the pants, and hopefully it’s coming.”

Flowers also shared some opinions about Kanye West, expressing his frustration that people seem scared “to say anything contrary to him being a genius.”

“I’m not going to tear him down, but I will say I find that to be frustrating,” he added. “I think he wants to be good. I think he wants to be great, and that’s something that we all want to strive for. We’ve just got different roads of getting there, I guess.”

Brandon Flowers’ second solo album, The Desired Effect, is expected to be released in Australia on Friday 15th May. Famed producer Ariel Rechtshaid (Kylie Minogue, Vampire Weekend, Beyonce) was on board for the recording and it’s set to feature guest appearances from Pet Shop Boys’ Neil Tennant and HAIM singer Danielle Haim.
