Billy Corgan Talks Smashing Pumpkins Reunion Rumours In Candid Video

The Smashing Pumpkins‘ frontman Billy Corgan has joined the recent swathe of artists and bands taking advantage of Facebook’s live-streaming feature, and he’s used it to discuss the future of the Pumpkins and his personal reconciliation with former bass player D’arcy Wretzky, who left the band back in 1999.

We heard back in July that the band might be gearing up for a reunion tour, after Corgan teased the idea to fans on Facebook.

Corgan revealed today that for the first time in around 16 years, the entire original Smashing Pumpkins lineup are back in contact and on speaking terms. However, he also set about quashing rumours that recent developments necessarily meant that a reunion will in fact happen.

“I’ve been in communication with D’arcy for the first time in 16 or 17 years, it’s awesome to have my friend back,” Corgan said. “So we’re all in communication, which as I said not too long ago, my primary interest in the old band was us having good relationships again.

“We’re not at that point, and I think that’s a good thing. We’re not rushing to something. We have to repair some things between us, and see what’s out there for us, if those opportunities are even there.”

Corgan went on to say that if the band ever got back on stage, it would be because of their love for music, not for money alone.

“We’re not interested, nor have we ever been interested in going out to play just because there’s a stack of money there… the band was never about that,” he said.

“I can tell you without a doubt that if that band ever gets back on stage, it will be about music, it will be about playing music that fans love, and that we love.”
