US punk-rock outfit SWMRS performed at a special benefit concert in their hometown of Oakland to raise funds for the families of the victims of the tragic Ghost Ship warehouse fire that occurred earlier this month.
The intimate show was put on at local record store by 1-2-3-4 Go! Records, and midway through SWMRS’ set the band brought out Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt of Green Day to play some old-school Green Day tunes. They were also joined on stage by Armstrong’s 18-year-old son Jakob Danger.
It was an emotional family affair for Armstrong, who got to play some classics alongside his sons Jakob and Joey, who is the drummer for SWMRS, and according to a 1-2-3-4 Go! Records Instagram post the concert raised over $3,000.
SFWeekly reports that towards the back end of the emotional set Armstrong addressed the crowd, saying “I know its been a tough 2016, but 2017 is going to kick its ass.”
Billie Joe also took to Instagram to thank his family and the fans who turned up for the night. “Amazing emotional night last night.. Me and Mr Dirnt got a chance to sit in with smrs. a benefit for the ghost ship folks. i’m playing with my babies.. Jakob and Joey”
