Obama cleared up the confusion surrounding his involvement with Korn while awarding a Medal of Honour to retired army captain Florent Groberg, who was once greeted by Korn’s actual frontman, Jonathan Davis (who may or may not be Obama in disguise, we’re not really sure anymore) when he awoke in hospital after tackling a suicide bomber.
Speaking at Groberg’s Medal of Honour ceremony, Obama recounted the story of how the 32-year-old thought he was hallucinating when he saw Davis at his side in hospital, but made note that it wasn’t a vision, and that Davis and the President are not the same person.
“Someone was at [Groberg’s] bedside, talking to him. And he thought it was the lead singer from the heavy metal band Korn,” Obama said.
“Flo thought, ‘What’s going on? Am I hallucinating?’ Today Flo, I want to assure you you are not hallucinating. You are actually in the White House. Those cameras are on, and I am not the lead singer from Korn.”
Watch the brilliantly weird moment unfold in the video below. Davis has also shared a clip (below) from the speech on Instagram, with the suitably surprised caption “wow”.
Back in 2011, Davis actually said he felt like Obama was “an Illuminati puppet”, telling Billboard, “It’s basically dragged this country down into the worst it’s ever been. ‘You’ve built this house of shame’ — the White House used to be, everybody looked up at the White House and America and everything, and now I think it’s like a house of shame.”
Groberg shoved a suicide bomber to the ground in Afghanistan in 2012, saving many others from harm but leaving himself so badly injured that he required 33 surgeries. He is now medically retired from the army.
