Austin Carlile Announces Departure From Of Mice & Men

Frontman of Of Mice & Men Austin Carlile has announced that he’s leaving the band after six years.

Carlile took to Twitter to share a statement saying, “The band will now still continue on just the four of them, and I wish them the best of luck without me heading into 2017.”

Carlile suffers from Marfan syndrome, a connective disorder, and while he’s battled through it he was told that if he continued to scream it would result in “permanent and irrevocable damage” to his spinal chord and nervous system.

“I cannot continue on,” he wrote.

“This has been the hardest thing that has happened in my life for a very long time but thankfully the band, my family and closest friends stand behind me.”

Despite this, he will continue to make music, writing, “I will be here in Costa Rica, where I have now moved, continuing to heal, rest, and write.”

“I will not stop playing music, I am still able to sing and I’m hungry for what is next to come even though I have no idea what that may be.”

Months ago, the band was forced to cancel a European tour due to Carlile’s disorder with the frontman writing on Instagram at the time, “I’m being admitted to Stanford University hospital where my specialists have been informed & are prepared to figure out what exactly is wrong.”

“I will remain there as long as needed to run tests & come up with an assessment of what exactly is causing my body & heart to seize up.”

They were then forced to cancel their Australian tour with A Day To Remember as Carlile continued to battle health concerns.

Carlile has released four studio albums with the band since 2010. They released their latest Cold World just this year.
