Aussie country crooner Jason Owen has copped a wave of abuse online after a bunch of redneck trolls from the US mistook him for a proudly gay music industry executive.
Over in America, another Jason Owen — who heads up Monument Records and Sandbox Entertainment — has been enduring a public trashing for opposing the appointment of a dude named Mike Huckabee to the board of the Country Music Association foundation.
Owen, who shares a son with his husband, objected to Huckabee on the grounds of his anti-gay marriage stance and pro-gun stance, arguing that his views “made it clear my family is not welcome in his America”.
He also labelled Huckabee’s appointment to CMA as “grossly offensive”, as the Lexington Herald Leader reports.
Bowing to the pressure, Huckabee turned in his resignation just one day after being appointed. And now, in retribution, his supporters have turned their venom onto Owen.

Except some of them got the wrong one.
“As you may have noticed, over the past 36 hours, I’ve been targeted, abused and dragged into a case of mistaken identity,” the other, Dubbo-based, Jason Owen told his Facebook followers.
“People are confusing me with Jason Owen from Monument Records/Sandbox Management in the USA. I am NOT him,” the 2018 CMC Music Award nominee continued.
“I’m a young country singer in Australia, with nothing to do with the situation involving Jason Owen of Sandbox, Mike Huckabee, or the CMA.”
Got it, far-right-wing Americans?
