Arcade Fire, M83 Make Academy Award Best Original Score Longlist

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have unveiled the one-hundred-and-fourteen music scores eligible for nominations in the Best Original Score category for the 86th Oscars, to be held in 2014, with the official longlist featuring the likes of Arcade Fire, M83, and Mike Patton.
According to the Academy’s website, to be eligible the score must be “a substantial body of music that serves as original dramatic underscoring, and must be written specifically for the motion picture by the submitting composer,” with scores “diluted” by preexisting music not eligible for nomination.
Arcade Fire, who recently unveiled their fourth studio album, received a nod for their score for Spike Jonze‘s Her, while French outfit M83 have been recognised for their work on Joseph Kosinski‘s Oblivion, and Mike Patton for Derek Cianfrance‘s The Place Beyond the Pines.
The official nominations will be announced Thursday, 16th January, with the awards ceremony proper to take place at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Centre Oscar Sunday, 2nd March 2014. This year’s Best Original Score prize went to Mychael Danna for his Life Of Pi score.
