An Alternate Version Of Nirvana’s ‘Marigold’ Has Surfaced Online, With Dave Grohl On Vocals

Just when you thought that the Nirvana vault had been picked clean, someone has reached in and pulled out another unheard gem.

An alternate version of the seminal grunge act’s In Utero track Marigold has surfaced online, featuring the addition of a cello.

As Consequence Of Sound reports, Marigold was penned by drummer-turned-Foo Fighter Dave Grohl, originally for his 1992 solo project Pocketwatch, and later re-recorded for Nirvana’s In Utero.

Like the original version, the alternate features Grohl on lead vocals and guitar with Krist Novoselic on bass, while Kurt Cobain reportedly sings the low harmony (which is so low in the mix it’s barely discernible).

Marigold was originally released as the B-side to Nirvana’s Heart-Shaped Box.

Check out the just-unearthed alternate version below, featuring Kera Schaley on cello.
