Amy Adams To Play Janis Joplin In Upcoming Biopic

American music icon Janis Joplin will reportedly be played by Academy Award nominated actor Amy Adams in upcoming biopic Get It While You Can. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of Adams’ attachment to the film, who was first rumoured to star as Joplin as early in 2010.

Adams (American Hustle, Man Of Steel) is a proven versatile actor with no less than five Oscar nominations over the last eight years. Her transformation into the impassioned, self-destructive Joplin should be an interesting affair, especially if she does her own vocal work.

Joplin rose to prominence in the 60s as the lead vocalist for acid rock band Big Brother And The Holding Company, and later made a name as a solo artist. She died in October 1970 of a heroin overdose, leaving behind a slew of hits like Piece of My Heart, Down On Me, and Get It While You Can.

Get It While You Can has been a troubled project, stuck in development for decades. In that time directors Lee Daniels, Fernando Meirelles, and Catherine Hardwicke have each been attached and to the project. Actor Renee Zellweger was at one point expected to take on the lead role.

Jean-Marc Vallée (Dallas Buyers Club) is now in talks with the film’s producers to direct. Writing duo Craig Borten and Melisa Wallack (Dallas Buyers Club) are also expected to rewrite the script. Vallée is expected to direct Get It While You Can in the second half of 2015.
