Prepare your eardrums, sk8er bois & girls, because new Avril Lavigne music is coming soon.
Avril (or, if you subscribe to the conspiracy theories, her clone Melissa) recently rocked up to the 25th annual Race To Erase MS gala — marking her first red carpet appearance in years, mind you — where she revealed that her long-anticipated new LP should be out before the end of 2018.
“It’s a really powerful record,” she tells E! News. “I’ve been working on this for three years. I can actually say this time I’m going to be done with this album in two weeks, and I will put it out this year.”
The new LP will form the follow-up to her self-titled album, which was released all the way back in 2013.
Seen then, the singer has been diagnosed with Lyme disease, and she’s says her new music will be very personal to reflect that experience.
“I’ve been writing songs that are really just powerful and true and honest and sincere and I think people will really be able to relate to it,” Av recently told Billboard. “I’ve gone through a lot of personal stuff in the past two years, and so I’ve really drawn from that. I mean, I always do, but this album is so different.
“I’m doing everything I can,” she continues. “And I just want it to be ready and everything to be perfect. A lot of care has gone into this. All the waiting and the hard work on my end will pay off. I promise.”
Sound-wise we have no idea whether Avril’s new record will harken back to the angsty pop-punk of her youth or her more recent controversial J-pop influenced fair or something else entirely, but it sounds like we won’t have to wait long to find out!
