In a new interview with Chilean music site Rock & Pop (via Stereogum), Simian Mobile Disco’s James Ford revealed that the long-awaited follow-up to their 2008 LP The Age Of Understatement is in the can.
“This year, I’ve just done a Last Shadow Puppets record, which is the guy from Arctic Monkeys and Miles…” he illuminated. “So we did the follow-up album to that. That’s the last thing I did.”
He also confirmed that the album is finished, and “It’ll be out next year sometime”.
This isn’t the first we’ve heard of The Last Shadow Puppet’s potential return, either. Earlier this year, string wizard Owen Pallett sent out a hastily-deleted tweet, implying that he’d been working on the project as well.
According to DIY, the tweet read: “That rare and thrilling moment when the record you’re working on crosses the threshold into Classic Status #tlsp2.”
We’re betting it’s probably still not enough to impress Noel Gallagher though.
The Last Shadow Puppets new one is not the only thing Turner and Kane have been cooking up together, either. Last year the pair also announced that they’d been busy working on a script for a new superhero movie, which has yet to materialise but we’re keeping our fingers crossed.
Meantime, while we wait for more concrete details of the group’s sophomore’s release date, relive one of the musical highlights from their debut LP, below.
