A Kurt Cobain Solo Album Will Be Released In November

Hold on to your heart-shaped boxes kids, an album filled with previously un-heard Kurt Cobain solo songs will be unveiled this November, coinciding with the DVD release of this year’s heart-wrenching Kurt Cobain documentary Montage Of Heck.

According to the film’s director, Brett Morgen, the album will contain all of the solo Cobain music featured in the film, as well as additional tracks, some “audio montages that Kurt Cobain created”, and even a comedy sketch. It’s due to be released on November 6th.

The song demos apparently range “from thrash to ragtime and everything in between,” the director tells Billboard, adding that “most of it is in a space that will be familiar to Nirvana fans.”

“These are all just Kurt by himself with the guitar,” he explains. “These aren’t multi-track, finished songs or work-ups, but they’re extraordinary, and I think they provide a tremendous insight into his [creative] process. I think they further our understanding of Kurt, both as a musician and as a man.”

Morgen put the album together while researching Montage of Heck, and trawled through more than 200 hours of recordings on 107 unmarked cassette tapes that the Nirvana frontman left behind in a storage unit.

He says the album is “curated to feel as though one were sitting in Kurt’s living room watching him create over the course of an afternoon.”
