6 Reasons Every Melburnian Should Attend Sugar Mountain

After taking a break in 2014, Sugar Mountain Festival is back in 2015 with a stellar lineup of music and art, set to take place at the Victorian College of the Arts. Tickets are on sale now via moshtix to what is bound to be one of the key dates on the Melbourne calendar this year.

Here are six reasons why every true Melburnian should attend Sugar Mountain:

The Venue

Set in the architecturally-innovative grounds of the Victorian College of Arts, Sugar Mountain's venue matches its lineup. With protruding pipes and a colourful disposition, it's a building of innovation.

The Art

Sugar Mountain 2015 is complimenting its music lineup with an equally interesting lineup of artists. Leif Podhajsky who has made artwork for the likes of Foals, Tame Impala, Grimes and plenty more are on the program, as is founding member of Lightning Bolt and Black Dice, Hisham Bharoocha. They're joined by a plethora of other International and local artists.

The Date

It's summer and Saturday 24 January is right in the heart of it. Melburnians brace the cold for much of the year so when an opportunity to enjoy the sun in the company of music and other like-minded people arises, it must be grabbed.

The Food

Sugar Mountain has just announced its scrumptious list of food and drink vouchers. Melbourne is at the epicentre of Australian food culture and the festival is celebrating that with all local vendors. Food choices include Hammer & Tong's delicious lobster roll or Uncle's traditional Vietnamese pork meatball banh mi. Rockwell and Sons , Raph Rashid's Snack Shack and The Beaufort/Ike's Rack Shack are also on board with plenty of culinary delights.

The Stellar Line-Up

Sugar Mountain's music lineup is like no other. It mixes together rock, electronica, hip-hop and more, pulling upon some of the most important artists of this time. Kim Gordon and Bill Nace are bringing their Body/Head project to Australia for the first time with 2014s fastest-rising electronic act, ODESZA and American oddball, Ariel Pink also set to play. Kirin J Callinan, Chela and Oscar Key Sung are amonsgt those flying the flag for the local artists.

Nas performing Illmatic

Earlier this year the hip-hop legend, Nas, performed his debut record, Illmatic, in full to a devoted Coachella crowd and since he's been touring it around the world to rave reviews. It's rare that Australia gets a hip-hop legend in this type of setting and as such Illmatic will cause mass hysteria at Sugar Mountain just like it did back in 1994.
