22-Year-Old Breaks Record For Most Gigs In A Day, Makes You Resent Ever Going To Uni

22-year-old singer songwriter Hunter Hayes has today forced us all to ask ourselves “What the hell are we doing with our lives?” after successfully entering The Guinness Book Of World Records for the most shows to ever be performed in a 24-hour period.

Touring under the banner of the 24 Hour Road Race To End Child Hunger, Hayes, in collaboration with Nebraska-based packaged foods company ConAgra Foods, managed to clock a whopping 10 shows in 10 cities in the space of a calendar day.

As Billboard reports, the jaunt began on Friday, 9th May, when Hayes’ performance on Good Morning America was broadcast around the US.

A presumably bleary eyed Hayes then hit the road for the remaining nine shows, making stops in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New Jersey, including a sojourn through a prom after party.

“I cannot believe how much fun this whole day has been and that it’s only been a day! 10 shows in 24 hours with the best fans in the world and a great cause with Child Hunger Ends Here,” Hayes said. “I’m so proud to get to work with them and all the sponsors. Thank you to all the fans for not only making history with us but also making this whole thing absolutely awesome!”

Before it passes your lips, let us ask the question you’re already thinking — if someone performs 10 shows in 10 cities and no-one is around, do they still make a noise? Understand that Hayes has already nabbed 4 Grammy nominations, and dropped a sophomore album Storyline just last week which made its debut at #3 on the US charts. So, yeah, shut your face and keep filling those sandwiches.

The previous holders of the record, The Flaming Lips, could only manage a pissweak eight shows in 24 hours. Must have been all that internal brouhaha wearing them down.

And what happens after the final performance? Rather than kicking on, Hayes and co. say that “everybody goes to bed”. A well-earned, and sensible, reward.
