2 Million Of You Are Using Ad-Free Spotify Without Paying For It

2 million people are using ad-free Spotify without paying for it according to the streaming service.

These stingy users have been accessing the platform using unauthorised apps that block ads, meaning they’re not paying a cent for the full service.

As Variety reports, Spotify did a risk assessment and caught out the users who weren’t paying for it. These users represent 1.3 per cent of its total users

“On March 21, 2018, we detected instances of approximately two million users as of December 31, 2017, who have been suppressing advertisements without payment,” Spotify said in a report to the US Securities And Exchange Commission.

Spotify are about to float the company on the New York Stock Exchange hence the assessment of users.

As a result of the findings, the app recently cracked down on the fraudulent users reducing its total user base from 159 million to 157 million total.

In the report, Spotify also expectedly revealed Apple Music as its biggest streaming rival. The platform has 38 million paying subscribers which is just over half of Spotify’s paying users.

Sorry to all you ad-free users who aren’t paying, it looks like Spotify have caught onto you.
