Yak Ales Melbourne Barbecue Festival 2017
Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 February 2017
Flemington Racecourse, Melbourne

The Yak Ales Melbourne Barbecue Festival is back for its third year, this time held over two consecutive days, Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 February 2017 at Flemington Racecourse.

On Saturday competitive barbecue teams from around Australia will assemble and set up for Sunday's American-style cook-off where they'll battle it out in the southern hemisphere's first Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) sanctioned event.

The Grand Champion of the Melbourne Barbecue Festival Cook-Off will be invited to represent Australia at internationally renowned contests in the United States such as the American Royal World Series Barbecue Invitational, and go into the draw for the prestigious KCBS-run Jack Daniel's World Championship Invitational Barbecue.

More than 35 teams have already ready registered to compete in the 2017 Melbourne Barbecue Festival. Full details at www.bbqfest.com.au

Festival highlights include: food stalls from some of Melbourne's finest barbecue pitmasters; barbecue cooking demonstrations by local and international barbecue experts; equipment and product exhibitors showcasing the latest local and international products on the market; and live entertainment and DJs.

Special guest, world championship pitmaster and restaurateur John David Wheeler, one of the most award-winning barbecue cooks in the world, joins the festival in 2017. Head Cook for the Natural Born Grillers barbecue team and co-pitmaster of the Memphis Barbecue Company, Wheeler's accolades include World Grand Championship at Memphis in May and over 75 other Grand Championships. Further international barbecue guests to be announced soon.

Our action packed, week-long celebration of all things barbecue is back again for 2017, including classes and events in and around Melbourne, featuring local and international barbecue experts, with a free admission barbecue street food festival at Queen Victoria Market scheduled for late January 2017.

The KCBS team will be holding certified barbecue-judging classes, where students will be taught what to look for in award-winning competition-style barbecue, with the chance to judge on Sunday 5 February, and multi-award winning pitmaster, Jim Johnson returns with a series of barbecue cooking classes.
