ALI PENNEY & THE MONEY MAKERS - Best Female Vocalist 2012 Australian Blues Awards

ABUKA - Brazillian infused grooves + a good helping of jazz & a handful of funk

BERNI LOVE - Australia's newest Soul Sensation! Featuring Talkbox King Don Dolla

IHEARMUSIC.COM presents our ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY in 'The World in The Basement' series. The format of the nights is to showcase 3 or more artists performing different genres of music. The night is likened to a mini-festival. Since June 2011 the iHearMusic.com nights have gained a reputation for being 'all about the music'. Through the mutual love of music, both audience and artists are taken on an unexpected exploration across different genres of music. On Tuesday 26 June 2012 we have the following artists for you:

ALI PENNEY & THE MONEY MAKERS - Rawness and emotion are what strikes you when you hear Ali Penney and The Money Makers play. Penney's husky, soulful voice is matched perfectly by the smooth sounds of The Money Makers' blues. She may consider herself a pianist first and this shows in her skills on the keys, but the honest vulnerability in Ali Penney's vocals has just won her an award for her singing. Nominated for several awards at the 2012 Australian Blues Awards at Goulburn Blues Festival, Penney took out the Best Female Vocalist, following up The Money Maker's Best Band win in 2010.

"She plays piano like an 80 year old black guy - she gotta lotta soul," is the accolade of Freddy King's right-hand-man, guitarist Andrew 'Junior Boy' Jones.

Ali has played for and supported some of the best: Johnnie Johnson, Chris Cain, Lucinda Williams, Cephas and Wiggins, The Tailgaitors and Chris Wilson plus she was invited to 'sit in' and play with Walter Washington and the Palm Court Orchestra in New Orleans. More than anything else, Penney is a band leader and as lead singer of The Money Makers, she knows how to put on a show - a funny and entertaining show - and play songs which get the audience toe-tapping and dancing. Most of Ali Penney's songs are upbeat, but wicked, all delivered live with a witty tale, a cheeky joke and a sly wink, which gets you laughing and ready to have fun!

ABUKA - Take a liberal serving of Brazilian infused grooves and rhythms, think bossa nova, samba, maracatu, baiao, a good helping of jazz and a handful of funk, and mix them all together to create a sophisticated, fun and fantastic sound that transports you a world away.

Abuka is Brazilian guitarist, singer and composer Tiago De Lucca; pianist, piano accordionist and composer Marcello Maio and multi percussionist Sandro Bueno.

BERNI LOVE - Completely new, fresh and electrifying with a voice that is undoubtedly extraordinary. To describe her voice as amazing is simply not enough. Berni Love is able to create a distinctive and unique sound that is completely hers. Tonight, Bernie will perform songs from her 2012 debut album THE LOVE LP and her performance will feature album producer and Talkbox King Don Dolla. The first single 'Lonely Teardrops', released in December 2011, received tremendous acclaim. The song, originally sung by Jackie Wilson, was the perfect way to introduce Berni Love's style and direction. THE LOVE LP is a thrilling new sound that embraces elements of pop, jazz and soul. Listeners will experience a revival of classic, timeless music with a modern vibe. This is just the beginning for Berni Love. Her voice, her music and her larger than life persona will keep you wanting more. There's nobody like Berni Love. She's a new kind of diva!

And for your enhanced listening pleasure, DJ BRENT CLOUGH will improvise some tunes which complement our 3 headline acts. Brent is one of the creators and current presenter of the ABC Radio National 'audio adventure' The Night Air.
