Music Against Wildlife Extinction

MORE INFO

Californian dream pop and indie-rock band Warpaint are playing Zoo Twilights in 2017, supported by Brooklyn's Big Thief.

Warpaint's studio albums, including their newly released third album Heads Up (2016) - which The Age dubbed "album-of-the-year contender" - emphasize moody atmospheres: gauzy keyboards, hypnotic harmonies and sinister grooves. In concert, however, the Los Angeles quartet comprising of vocalist/guitarist Emily Kokal, vocalist/guitarist Theresa Wayman, bassist/vocalist Jenny Lee Lindberg and drummer/keyboardist Stella Mozgawa, pair this moodiness with bumped-up tempos and sinewy beats. So when the band convened to make their third studio album, Heads Up, they shared a common goal: to make a faster, dance-oriented record. This will be Warpaint's third time in Australia, and first since their 2014 slot on the national Laneway Festival.

Big Thief's music is rooted in the songs of singer Adrienne Lenker, filled with characters and visceral narratives, songs that pivot in the space of a few words. They released their debut album Masterpiece in May 2016, with Beat calling it "an honest and disarming account of the pain that comes with the gradual erosion of innocence and love."

Warpaint is proud to be performing in support of Zoos Victoria's fight against wildlife extinction.
