It's with considerable excitement that Tom Stephens announces the release of new single 'Wake Me When the Day's Gone', along with a music video and an Australian tour in June and July.

Tom Stephens released his debut album 'What Lies in the Difference' in October 2016. It received glowing reviews with THE BRAG awarding it their 'Album of the Week' and praising it as "an exceptional record in all senses of the word: as a debut album it is startlingly self contained and assured, but as a passionate, strikingly pure record, it stands apart from the crowd." Lead single 'Down to Rest' was well received by critics, having been rewarded high rotation on triple j Unearthed Radio as well as spins on 2Ser, Fbi and ABC Radio National.

Since then, Tom Stephens has been busy writing and preparing for his second full length to be recorded in mid-2017. Much of 2016 saw Stephens touring internationally with Julia Jacklin as a member of her band. It was during this time in July while home from touring that 'Wake Me When the Day's Gone' was recorded. The track was recorded live in a day with Stephens' band at the legendary Rancom St. Studios in Sydney with engineer Ryan K Brennan.

The 7-minute epic opens with a vulnerable vocal and warm acoustic guitar, enticing the listener into Stephens' story of mental illness and failed attempts at self-discovery in a big city. The chorus line singing "living out the narratives you see on the screen ain't no place for you or for me, it's right in front of us", a statement by Stephens on generation Y's tendency to constantly compare and idealise those in the media, inevitably leading to disappointment and dejection. The band gently creeps in, each player complementing the progression towards the climactic guitar solo played by dear friend Monty Richmond, over the top of which Stephens repeats the refrain "wake me when the day's gone".

The accompanying video shows footage of Stephens and his band in the studio on the day of recording, interspersed with tour footage and other visions captured by Stephens on his iPhone.

To celebrate the release of 'Wake Me When the Day's Gone', Tom Stephens will be hitting the road with his band for a handful of dates in June and July.
