Event Details

Niche and The Operatives are extremely proud to present the return of Los Angeles native THUNDERCAT. Following his announcement on St Jerome’s Laneway Festival 2016, we are pleased to announce he will be playing two exclusive sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne.

You're probably a fan of THUNDERCAT already, even if you don't know it. As Thundercat, Bruner takes his jazz roots and works with a mix of artists that suit his wildly experimental sensibilities - ranging from Flying Lotus, Erykah Badu, and Stanley Clarke, as well as more recent collaborations with Wiz Khalifa and Earl Sweatshirt, to name but a few. Forever a wildcat and wild card he is impossible to tame artistically. A true master of his craft, he can be found playing bass with Suicidal Tendencies, in the same breath as performing live with the likes of Snoop Dogg or the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Thundercat recently returned to the Brainfeeder fold with his first solo material in two years, having already made outstanding contributions to not one, but two, of the greatest albums of 2015 - To Pimp a Butterfly and The Epic - by fellow Los Angelians Kendrick Lamar and Kamasi Washington. Mini-album The Beyond / Where the Giants Roam picks up where 2013's Apocalypse left off, with Thundercat joined on production duties by longtime sparring partner Flying Lotus for six spiralling excursions to the outer limits of jazz-funk.

Joining Thundercat in Sydney is the Zambia-raised Sampa The Great. A female poet and singer-songwriter who aims to inspire through music, poetry and visual art. Having seemingly appeared out of nowhere, she has quickly won fans to her cause with her stunning debut, 'the Great Mixtape', which is only just a beginning for an artist of unmeasurable talent.
