THE WOMBATS IN WOLLONGONG

WITH SPECIAL GUEST ELDERBROOK

As Splendour in the Grass creeps ever closer and anticipation for that yearly road trip for the soul starts to grow, you could be forgiven for thinking that the sideshow announcements were done and dusted.

Well, think again and get ready to hit the coast as the team behind Splendour pairs with Yours & Owls to announce a mini- festival in sunny Wollongong on Wednesday 25 July headlined by English pop heroes The Wombats with special guest Elderbrook with more acts soon to be announced.

Taking place on the University of Wollongong's Innovation Campus, this not-to-be-missed event will celebrate Splendour's imminent arrival by taking some of its biggest draw cards, rolling them up into one huge big top and putting them on show for the people of the 'Gong.

As tickets to their Melbourne and Sydney sideshows disappear quicker than the Northern Hairy-nosed version of their namesakes, The Wombats will add another chapter to what is a becoming an out-and-out love affair with Australia. The dynamic three-piece are regular visitors Down Under and never let seem to let a release pass without popping up on our shores.

Tracks from their latest album Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life like 'Lemon To A Knife Fight' and 'Cheetah's Tongue' have blended seamlessly with a smorgasbord of other hits, think 'Let's Dance To Joy Division', 'Jump Into The Fog', 'Moving To New York', 'Tokyo (Vampires and Wolves)' and the list goes on - empowering these loveable Liverpudlians with a colossal live show.

English electronic maestro Elderbrook will also be spinning the big top. Recently nominated for a Grammy with Cola (a collaboration with British duo CamelPhat) this rising minimalist started off in indie bands and has morphed his way into a fully-grown trendsetter. His honeyed vocals blend gorgeously with fluid beats and just the right amount of bounce to create a combination that have sent followers into a frenzy.

With more acts still to be announced, this mini-festival will be like a sideshow on steroids. Sweeping through Wollongong on Wednesday 25 July, it aims to spread the Splendour love far and wide.
