Event Details

With Greta on vocals and piano will be drummer/vocalist Adam D Gold, her partner on this ambitious recording project. The album was inspired by Herman Melville's landmark novel Moby Dick, and features more than 60 musicians, with a spellbinding narrative arc that unfolds over four musical chapters (to be released as four sides of a double vinyl album, as well as digitally and on CD). Its launch tonight precedes its USA debut, coming up in October.

Originally hailing from Sydney and now based in New York, celebrated singer-songwriter Greta founded the chamber pop group Peccadillo which also featured Lara Goodridge and Joy Howard, who are also on the new album, along with another longtime musician friend, Barney McAll, plus such US musicians as Roy Nathanson (Jazz Passengers), Terry Scherr (Feist), Tanya Donelly (Belly, Throwing Muses) and Maria Jeffers (Sufjan Stevens).

Greta was the writer of The Whitlams mega hit Blow Up The Pokies, which appears in its original form as the song Dwell on The Universal Thump, with backing vocals from Joy and Lara and Tanya Donelly.

Greta and Adam have been touring Europe and the USA extensively, opening for acts like Joan As Policewoman and Martha Wainwright.

But enough of the name dropping. This promises to be an incredible evening of superb songwriting and performing, and a rare treat - Greta and Adam will be performing Chapters One and Two of The Universal Thump exclusively at Blue Beat, followed by Chapters Three and Four at the Camelot Lounge.

Then Greta heads back to New York.
