The Staves Announce Second Show in Melbourne
"There's no showy stagecraft on show, yet the whole room is smitten". - DIY Magazine
The Staves have announced two special headline gigs in Brisbane and Melbourne, following previously announced festival appearances at Sydney City Limits, Auckland City Limits, NZ Festival of the Arts in Wellington, and Perth International Arts Festival. The tour, which commences on February 22 in Perth, will see the band playing their first festival sets and headline shows in the Southern Hemisphere.
The Staves released their first full-length album Dead & Born & Grown, produced by Glyn and Ethan Johns, in 2012. The Sunday Times called it "a debut of stellar beauty and hidden depths." The band then spent much of the next three years touring the world, including opening spots with the Civil Wars, Ben Howard, and Bon Iver.
During the Bon Iver run, the sisters formed a bond with Justin Vernon, who invited them to visit his April Base studio, where he ultimately produced their second album, If I Was. Following its release, The Staves performed at a string of international festivals, including Glastonbury and Eaux Claires, before joining Florence and the Machine's sold-out UK arena tour.
Following the widespread global acclaim for If I Was in 2015, The Staves returned in 2016 with the stellar 3-track Sleeping In A Car EP, also recorded in Eau Claire, WI, at Justin Vernon's (Bon Iver) April Base studio and at Urchin Studios in London. To coincide with the start of their 2017 tour, The Staves released the double A Side Tired As Fuck / Train Tracks.
The Watford-born sisters, now based between Minneapolis and London-Emily (vocals, synth), Jessica (vocals, guitar, keyboards), and Camilla (vocals, guitar, ukulele) Staveley-Taylor-have spent the last two years touring North America, the UK and Ireland. The band's new live show has received rave reviews, and sold out venues in cities including New York, LA, Toronto, London and Manchester.
