Melbourne folk-pop darlings, The Little Stevies have built up an exceptional reputation as a must see live act, drawing keen, loyal, Little Stevie-loving fans wherever they go.
It's been the journey of a lifetime for The Little Stevies. Sisters Sibylla and Bethany, and their childhood friend Robin, grew up making music together, so by the time they started a band with their friend Josh, they possessed a musical affinity well beyond their young age. After the release of their debut album Love Your Band in early 2009, they rapidly built a reputation as canny songwriters and an exceptional live act, building a loyal following of Little Stevie-loving fans throughout Australia.
In March 2010, The Little Stevies returned from their first tour of the USA, originally planned as a low-key showcase trip. What transpired was beyond all expectations, with the band stealing the spotlight at the International Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis, playing packed-out public shows, signing with a leading booking agent and attracting a swag of label, radio and publishing interest.
Why have The Little Stevies struck such a rich, penetrating and instant chord with audiences? It might be their honest lyrics, an oft-witty, oft-moving mixture of the personal and the profound. It might be their sound, an eclectic and energetic blend of acoustic pop, adorned with stunning three-part harmonies. And it might be the cheeky, charming personalities of the band members themselves, who enjoy chatting with a crowd almost as much as playing for them. Many music critics have tried to pinpoint the The Little Stevies! undeniable appeal. Here!s what some have written:
I'm not sure you could feel bad listening to The Little Stevies. The genuine, bright personas of the band members aside, their music is a joyous myriad of stripped-back, saccharine tunes. They!re a cohesive, confident and professional bunch, unafraid to work the mic in between songs, pleasing the audience with odd tales of days just gone. Their real talent with the microphone lies, however, in their flawless harmonies Their great reputation was affirmed time and time again. -Faster Louder Live Review
The dichotomy within the album is truly fascinating, and the collage of tracks assembled here showcases true talent musically and lyrically that will leave few disappointed It's fun and light-hearted and yet so disciplined in style and substance that this isn't just a flash in the pan offering This is such an outstanding album that I fear my words won't do it justice. -Felicity Rennie, The Dwarf
They sing the kind of harmonies that seem to squeeze down on your insides and are remarkably genuine in both writing and performance. You see from their opening wave hello to their final wave goodbye, Sibylla Stephen, Bethany Stephen and Robin Geradts-Gill have us charmed with their dexterous storytelling which at times glows with a rare kind of intimacy but for the most part perches on an endearing playfulness. Either way, this is great stuff. -Carly Rae, Faster Louder
Love Your Band is every bit the blast of refreshing air that is The Little Stevies' live experience. Songs such as 'Grandma' and 'Rock'n'roll'are every bit as pure and sparkling on CD as they are live, proof that producer Jimi Maroudas really "got! the band. Magical -Kim Porter, Forte Magazine
