The 12th AMP winner announcement will take place in Melbourne on Thursday March 9 from 7.30pm. The free public event at the Toff in Town will showcase performances by three local artists releasing new albums in 2017, before the $30,000 prize is awarded to the winning artist courtesy of our principal partner PPCA.

After 11 years in Sydney, and with all nine Shortlisted artists based in Melbourne, it's the first time in the AMP's history that the event has moved.

One of the nine Shortlisted artists will take out the 12th AMP for having produced and released what our independent and expert judges, consisting of artists, journalists and retailers, believe to be the BEST Australian album of 2016.

Hosted by Melbourne's own Deborah Conway and the CEO of PPCA, Dan Rosen, everyone is welcome to attend (until venue capacity is reached).

Deborah Conway said, "As a musician of 35 years with more than a dozen albums released, a past judge of the AMP and a Melbournian, I am delighted to be co-hosting this year's very special event celebrating so many Melbourne musicians and so much great music."

Appearing on the night are Rat & Co who will perform songs from their new album 'Third Law' due out in August, Ali Barter who will perform songs from her new album 'A Suitable Girl' released on March 24. There will also be a surprise third guest performance.

The 12th AMP Shortlist (in alphabetical order) is:
