Scottish alt-rockers Teenage Fanclub will take to the Twilight at Taronga presented by ANZ stage for a performance under the stars overlooking Sydney Harbour during the closing weekend of the 2017 series, supported by teen indie-pop group The Goon Sax.
First finding success with the release of their critically acclaimed breakthrough album Bandwagonesque (1991), the five-piece, comprised of Norman Blake, Raymond McGinley, Gerard Love, Dave McGown and Francis MacDonald have toured extensively throughout the UK and USA over the past 27 years, and supported international superstars such as Foo Fighters. In the 90s, the band was regularly name-checked by Kurt Cobain in interviews as "the best band in the world," a notion backed by Liam Gallagher who declared the band "the second band in the world" - second only to Oasis. Their latest album Here (2016) was released in September and was a critical success, with The Line of Best Fit proclaiming "Teenage Fanclub's return after six years proves worth the wait."
Kicking off the evening are teenage three-piece The Goon Sax who hail from Brisbane and formed in 2013. They released their debut album Up To Anything (2016) to overwhelmingly glowing reviews, with The Guardian awarding the release five stars and NME stating the album is "an endearingly simple and quietly profound telling of a suburban adolescence, twinned with some near-flawless guitar pop."
