Strawberry Boogie - str b( )ri/ bu i/ 1. 'A celebration of local creative culture'
Strawberry Boogie returns for another month. For anyone who hasn't attended a Boogie before, we have two core aims. One, to celebrate the melting pot of creativity that exists within our local realm. Giving a platform to exhibit these art forms in front of like-minded rabble, we have welcomed everything from live art, cinematography, visual mixing and independent fashion to interactive concept installations.
This month we have the lineup on the boil, but can reveal two of our very special guests -
Sydney outfit PLANET is the culmination of several years of trial and error in songcraft, performance and production. Matty Took (vox and rhythm), Tom Peppitt (lead guitar), Harrison Stewart-Weeks (drums) and Jimmy Weaver (bass) were first brought together by their shared love of music: old and new, foreign and domestic. Drawing influences from past and present the four-piece combine pop laden guitar hooks with soaring vocal melodies. The result is a sound which is reminiscent of Britpop but remains undeniably Australian.
While PLANET remains, for the most part, a staunchly independent labour of love - all songs being recorded in Matty Took's bedroom studio - the band employed producer Lachlan Mitchell (Jezebels, Little Bastard) to add his touch to their past singles as well as their upcoming debut EP. Dave Ruby Howe of Triple J has said of the band, "Every song feels like a step forward for them to the point now that they're 10 paces out in front."
Showing no signs of slowing down, 2018 is set to be a big year for the band. Fans can expect a new single from PLANET, as well as an accompanying tour in the coming months, with their debut EP set to be released shortly after.
Stellar superstars RACKETT have released their new single Space Cadet; a rocketing psych-jam introducing their new extraterrestrial friend Steve the alien. To celebrate the release of Space Cadet; RACKETT and Steve will be hitting the great road in the sky to play fourteen shows through June and July with dates in Western Australia, Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales.
The band first met their outer-space compatriot after being saved from certain deathby his accidental intervention and together the new crew wrote this slamming single. "Space Cadet is an ode to our friend Steve; whom we met when we landed on the roof of his spacecraft after unintentionally rescuing us from our plummeting deaths,"said vocalist Rebecca Callander. "We wrote Space Cadet with Steve while we were on his spacecraft after too many lucid cocktails and plasma dust," said bassist, Ally Gaven. RACKETT really harnessed Steve's incredible cosmological styles and talents to put together new music that is truly out of this world!
The full music & live creative lineup to be announced shortly!
