\\\\\ Summer of Love 88/89 /////

The Second Summer of Love was a period in 1988 and 1989 in the United Kingdom during the rise of acid house music and the euphoric explosion of unlicensed rave parties. Electronic dance music fueled an explosion in youth culture culminating in mass free parties and the era of the rave. The music of this era fused dance beats with a psychedelic, 1960s flavour, and the dance culture drew parallels with the hedonism and freedom of the Summer of Love in San Francisco two decades earlier. In the early stages of the Second Summer of Love, the events and parties were often held in empty warehouses across the UK and were essentially illegal. Information about these events travelled by word of mouth (as well as the newly popular mobile phone) between clubbers who were obliged to party incognito. Acid house was typical of the Second Summer of Love. The music was characterised by "squelching" bass and loud repetitive beats. It originated in Chicago and took on new qualities when it came to Europe. Songs from the time period include "French Kiss by Lil Louis "On & On" by Jesse Saunders, "Mystery of Love" by Fingers Inc., "Love Can't Turn Around" by Farley "Jackmaster" Funk & Jesse Saunders (featuring Darryl Pandy), "Back to Life (However Do You Want Me)" by Soul II Soul, "I've Lost Control" by Sleezy D, and "Your Only Friend" by Phuture.

\\\\\ Mark Dynamix /////

A true legend in Australian dance music, Mark Dynamix (aka Mark Vick) knows a thing or two about how the music industry revolves in Australia. From producing his own records, DJing, event promotions, radio hosting, running his own record label - Long Distance Recordings - as well as his day job working with Ministry Of Sound/Sony Music in concept, compilation and licensing; he has been forefront in the minds of Australian dance music enthusiasts for over 25 years.

Mark got his break on radio in 1990 and then in Sydney's burgeoning rave scene in 1992. Highlights include taking up a long standing residency in 1997 at Sublime, playing a 10,000 capacity Boiler Room at the Big Day Out in 2003 (plus 2010 and 2013), hosting Triple J's Mix Up (1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2010), his genre-breaking 4 year residency at Chinese Laundry from 2006, playing at The Love Parade (2006) in Berlin + gigs all over Europe, Canada and Asia throughout the 00's.

Mark DJ's with the kind of versatility that sees him touring for Ministry Of Sound, to warming up for icons like Boy George, Joey Negro, Chicane, Miguel Migs and D-Nox, alongside playing underground club nights like S.A.S.H, FoxLife and Spektrum. Whatever the brief, he meets it with the kind of precision & professionalism that only a DJ of his experience can.

\\\\\ Shacklo & Mitch Fowler (Canvas) /////

After delivering a bangin' set last year at Manc 88-94 with Jon Da Silva, it was a no-brainer to have the canvas lads back on the bill for phase 2. These Sydney house legends have an underlying love for the roots of house music and didn't think twice when we mentioned Summer of Love. Having recently worked with some of the top DJ's on the FUSE London scene these lads will have all bases covered when it comes to keeping you going into the early hours...
