The Speak Satellite Festival is an event that showcases forward thinking artists and is an initiative of the
Wollongong Conservatorium of Music to present new and diverse music in the Illawarra. Over three nights,
some of Australia's most progressive young musicians will congregate in Wollongong to share sounds and
ideas; to connect the past and possibility.
Head to Moving Mountains Gallery to hear three of Sydney's most exciting improvisational bands: Microfiche,
Rebel Scum, and Prophets.
Prophets
Prophets are collective based in Melbourne and Sydney. The spectacularly masked band have been sharing
their musical visions since 2007. Prophets are known for their unique approach to collective music-making,
Stylefree grooves and polyphonic sounds with multiple saxophones, drums, percussion, keyboards and self-
made instruments.
Rebel Scum
Rebel Scum have travelled millions of lights years in order to rock this world. They will play music that you
Earthlings might describe as "avant garde", "improvised", "experimental" and "weird". However, they are
playing their homeplanet's traditional music. Enjoy and rock on.
Microfiche
Microfiche are an eight-piece ensemble whose music explores the meeting points of improvisation and
composition, through & 'miniatures'less than a minute long to durational works of up to thirty minutes. The
band launched its debut album in December 2016, with a live EP following earlier this year. Their Speak
Satellite set will feature a mixture of old and new music alongside a large does of inspired group improvisation.
