Snakadaktal was formed in early 2010, when five school friends - Sean, Barna, Joseph, Phoebe and Jarrah - began experimenting and exploring with blends and variations of fun dreamy pop. That same year they recorded a demo of a song called "Air" in a small recording studio at their school and posted it on triple j's Unearthed. Then between January and May 2011 Snakadaktal recorded and self produced their debut six track EP at their home studio set up in a variety of locations in Melbourne's outer east. In May, the band entered triple j's Unearthed High and in June uploaded their first officially produced single "Chimera", accompanied by a beautiful video clip shot over two days for a minimal budget of $500. "Chimera" received praise and some early airplay from local radio, numerous blogs, and the attention of the music industry at large. On Monday 22 August Snakadaktal was announced as the winner of triple j's Unearthed High School competition, and a week later triple j flew the band to the ABC Studios in Sydney to re-record the song they had entered Unearthed High with back in 2010. The new version of "Air" went on air the next day and is currently the #2 most played track on triple j. As the final part of their Unearthed High Prize , Snakadaktal hosted a packed lunchtime gig at their school , the Rudolph Steiner school, headlined by the Living End. Snakadaktal plan to release their debut six track EP in November 2011, and are pleased and proud to announce their first ever East coast tour to celebrate that release in December 2011.
