Printmaking - Screen Printing on Fabric

6 x Saturdays, 11 February - 18 March 2017

10.00 am - 12.30 pm

Tutor: Micaela Christie

Intimate class size: maximum 8 students

Once you start screen printing your original designs, you won't want to stop. Easy and affordable, the process of screen printing on fabric is only limited by your imagination. Incredibly versatile and personal, there's something quite satisfying about seeing a design you've drawn being transferred to the screen, followed by engaging in the physical hand printed process. Turn your vision into tactile printed fabrics that can be transformed into cushions, quilts, tableware, cloth bags or striking artwork.

Throughout this 6-week course, printmaker Micaela Christie will teach you techniques for designing and cutting stencils from vinyl and acetate to create to your own screen printed textiles. You'll learn how to select fabric, prepare your screen, use a squeegee, mix inks, and print onto a variety of fabrics using non-toxic, water-based inks.

Full instruction is provided on materials, products, tools, equipment and studio procedures. Non-toxic processes will be offered wherever possible.

Level: designed for complete beginners.

Wear: comfortable clothing (aprons provided)

Bring: yourself - all materials provided

Next level class: Take your foundation knowledge into advanced study by learning photo emulsion screen printing or screen printing on paper.

Location: Darlington Studio
