ELEMENTS OF LIGHT - Pantha Du Prince (GER) and The Bell Laboratory (NRW), Oval (GER)

In an exclusive Australian appearance especially for Melbourne Music Week, German techno minimalist Pantha Du Prince (Hendrik Weber) will perform his remarkable, world-acclaimed collaborative symphony Elements of Light.

A sonic continuation of Werber's ambient, gauzy and bell-laced 2010 album Black Noise, Elements of Light is an unusual and entirely original musical score developed in collaboration with Oslo's The Bell Laboratory. The project explores the intersection between electronic elements and classical composition in a 40-minute symphony of carillon, live percussion and electronic programming.

Co-presented by Melbourne Recital Centre, and in association with the Goethe-Instiut, this mesmerising performance will see Pantha Du Prince and a full six-member cast from The Bell Laboratory take the stage armed with gongs, tubular bells, and a swathe of percussive instruments including marimba, xylophone and cymbals. Maintaining a strict focus on the resonating sound of bells and percussion, this symphony offers a deep and broad range of sounds, with organically reconstructed electronic textures and a driving, swelling bass drum.

Rather than broken into single tracks, Elements of Light has been designed to be listened to as one continuous movement of music. This exclusive appearance will see audiences experience the symphony in the way Werber had intended: a continual musical development.

This remarkable show also features a support performance by Oval (aka Markus Popp). Widely held as the godfather of glitch, Ovals' legendary early album releases sent shockwaves through the 90's electronic landscape. After a long hiatus, Popp is back to change the game all over again, with a new, ground-breaking hyper real style.
