Nahko and Medicine For The People will be bringing their unique and powerful meld of World, Folk and Urban Roots to Brisbane, Port Macquarie, Sydney and Melbourne this April.

Oregon-native Nahko, born a mix of Apache, Puerto Rican, and Filipino cultures, was adopted into an American family and now lives in Hawaii. Nahko was born from strife and intermingling identities, his music speaks of self-discovery and acceptance and also an underlying theme of social and political change. He delivers his message with a powerful set, ably assisted by the tribal percussionist Hope Medford; known for her sensual, hypnotic world beats infused with maternal soul and guitarist Chase Makai, who brings an edgier, rock feel to the Medicine sound.

As previously announced, Nahko & Medicine For The People will be joining Michael Franti in Brisbane as part of their tour. It won't be the first time these incredible musicians have shared a bill before; Nahko played at Michael Franti's Soulshine Festival in Bali in December last year. Nahko & Medicine For The People have also toured with SOJA and internationally with Xavier Rudd, finding an adoring and growing fan-base along the way.

Like Franti, Nahko melds music and activism worlds, as he states here "I think our music promotes the bridging of all tribes". Indeed it will be a healing and empowering night of real, raw and honest music.

"I caught Nahko at Michael Franti's Soulshine Festival in Bali and booked him immediately to come and play Bluesfest this year - WOW - what a talent. If you love Michael get ready, as Nahko has that same incredible vibe. He is going to be HUGE." Bluesfest Festival Director Peter Noble
