From Detroit to Sydney

ft. Moodymann (US) & Dan Shake (UK)

Saturday 19th November - Cake Wines Cellar Door

Astral People and Cake Wines have teamed up to present two of house music's most renowned figures in Detroit's distinguished Moodymann and UK's finest and recent signee to his own Mahogoni Music imprint, Dan Shake. The two are set bring the sounds of late-night Motor City and London dance floors in one of Sydney's best-kept secret venues.

Enigma and silhouetted man-on- the-mic, Kenny Dixon Jr. AKA Moodymann is one of the most elusive and charismatic figures that house music ever bred. Despite his refusal to give interviews and play the press game, Moodymann's voice has been amongst the loudest when it comes to preserving the rich heritage of Afro-American music while fighting the industry powers that be. Blessed with an immaculate way of sampling, he takes stems from blues and soul, and respectfully transposes them onto the next level. From his dark and dusty deep house tunes on Peacefrog, Planet E and his own R&B-drenched outings on the Mahogani Music imprint, Moodymann's fingerprint is unmistakable.

Dan Shake has done what literally no other has done before him and landed his first release on Moodymann's prestigious label with no Detroit heritage and no Detroit residency. Shake's induction into the prestigious inner-circles of Mahogoni Music's native producers has underpinned the scene's evolving sound and continuous global expansion. His debut '3AM Jazz Club' and last years 'Out Of Sight' EP swing through raw house cuts to jubilant disco anthems, a sound firmly rooted in the rich musical history of Detroit and Chicago. Since, Dan Shake has been making his mark on dance-floors all over the globe, both with his distinctive productions and his expertise in working a crowd.
