MGM and The Music invite you to an evening of great new Australian independent music as part of the ARIA Week celebrations.

From the sounds of late 70s underground Australia meets 80s US indie via Adelaide's Bad//Dreems to the classic and soulful take on modern indie folk from Sydney's Sons Of The East. The fusion of classic rock riffs, cunning beats and savage rhymes of Sydney's She-Rex, to the noir-tainted pop space created by Brisbane's Bandito Folk and the undeniably infectious, upbeat and energetically joyful sounds and 5 part harmonies from Sydney's Castlecomer.

We look forward to seeing you at what promises to be a highlight on the 2013 new music calendar.

Bad//Dreems: Adelaide. There's no time to wallow in the mire. If you do you're just gonna get sucked away. Sucked up north through the city's decaying fringe, past the closed Mitsubishi plant, past Snowtown, past Port Augusta and into the dry red nothingness.Bad//Dreems know this. That's why they got together the summer before last, sweating out their hangovers in a warehouse next to the West End Brewery.Sure the trams stopped here in 1958 (cf. M. Easton 2013), sure venues keep closing, sure the good bands keep leaving for Melbourne and sure, you gotta keep paying the bills. But just have a bloody crack and then keep on chooglin' (CCR 1967).

Then again, you scratch the surface here and you find another world, far removed from the leafy inner suburbs. From the port with its decaying factories and rusty Chinese tankers to the forgotten northern fringe with its salt plains and dilapidated greenhouses. The empty jail on the edge of the city. A decade long bikie war. The Family. This is the weird murder capital. The weed capital. Badlands.

It is this world, constructed or not, that Bad//Dreems attempt to capture in their debut EP, Badlands. Mundane meets morbid; the humdrum meets the horror; nostalgia meets nightmare. Big dreams meet bad dreams.Despite the darkness and neuroses that Badlands explores, there remains a stoic optimism. You can't afford to wallow here. Times might be bad but there's something better around the corner. The schooner's still half full.

Bandito Folk: Bandito Folk cross the great embankment with a new EP recorded with Magoo. The Embankment out NOV 15 on Valve/MGM.

Gold mad men stalk the edge of the fire seeking that glaring everything beyond reason's they will ever know - Brisbane's Bandito Folk take a trip into the noir tainted space of The Embankment... their debut EP with Valve. Recorded with Magoo out at Applewood the four tracks presented within draw the listener into the interstitial haze of another place featuring Don't Wanna Be Like You, Hacky Sack, Into the Fire and You Don't Know My Name.

Brisbane 5 piece band Bandito Folk started kicking around back in 2011 while students at QUT... the same uni that Ball Park Music, Cub Sport emerged from. Over the past year or so they have collected a clump of songs mainly written by singer/guitarist Josh Tuck and played a bunch of shows around Brisbane with Halfway, The Medics, Millions, Battleships, I Am Man and at the Spiegeltent (2011, 2012), Brisbane Festival 2012 ], 4Walls festival and a month long residency at Vinyl - Brisbane HiFi's street bar. A debut self-released EP Please Don't Talk to Strangers was made while at QUT in 2012.

She-Rex: She-Rex pierces the soft underbelly of the pedestrian and the predictable, smashing together the influence of Blakroc, M.I.A. and Queens of the Stone Age into something unprecedented and undeniably unique.

Spitting electric elocutions and savage rhymes is frontwoman Nikkita Rast, armed withfearsome flow and righteous fury. Tash Adams aka The Hitwoman wrecks up the rhythm, blasting backbeats with a Dave Grohl meets ?uestlove meets John Bonham appeal. Triple threat Sarah Jullienne aka Sarwolf gives life to sound itself through synth, keys, and vocals, the second member of SHE REX's slick vox brigade. Darcie Irwin-Simpson, the band's resident electric lady, rounds out this explosive Molotov cocktail of femme as fuck rage and cunning beats, bringing with her a trademark fusion of classic rock riffs and chords with the slick trickiness of hip-hop.

The band quickly rose up through the Sydney live music scene, playing with an array of artists including Children Collide, The Preatures, Citizen Kay, British India and have just announced shows with Stonefield. After releasing their debut self-titled EP on September 7th, She Rex have been going from strength to strength. Their powerhouse show at Brisbane's BIGSOUND conference, saw the band land on the "ones to watch list" for both The Music and Rolling Stone.

Castlecomer: Forming in late 2010, Castlecomer released their debut EP "Danny's Den" on the 30th of March 2012 at one of Sydney's premier live music venues, The Gaelic Theatre in Surry Hills. Laying their claim as the last live act ever to grace the stage at the venue, they released their "Danny's Den" EP to a sell-out crowd of 600, and have continued to advance in leaps and bounds, thrilling audiences with their live performances in Sydney and down the east coast of Australia.

Castlecomer boast a high-impact live show with their 5-part harmonies, and have shared the stage with such acts as Ball Park Music, Last Dinosaurs, The Griswolds, Faker, Winter People, Underlights and Mitzi among others, and have been involved in established events such as Secret Garden Festival, Communion, Major Raiser, Macquarie University Conception Day and UNSW Open Day.

The "Danny's Den" EP, recorded with Steve Manovski at Origami Studios, has enjoyed relative success since its release, selling over 1200 hard copies and 1000 digital sales to date. Castlecomer have recently finished recording their second EP with Simon Todkill at Studios 301 in Sydney, the new record due for release in early 2013.

Sons Of The East: Sons of the East combine classic and soulful songwriting with modern indie folk on their self-titled debut EP. Their natural blend of striking vocals with piano, banjo and guitar has won them a growing legion of fans on the east coast. While Sons of the East is essentially three friends having fun playing indie-folk tunes, the ever growing crowds think there's something more. Their soulful blend of keys, banjo, guitar and charismatic vocals are propelling them to higher and higher ground, with audiences struck by their effortlessly timeless songs.

Consisting of Jack Rollins, Nic Johnston and Dan Wallage, the three friends from Sydney's northern beaches came together in 2011, and have spent their time playing venues both in Sydney and up and down the east coast of NSW.

The film clip for their first single, 'Hold On', featured on tastemaker blogs around the world including "The Cool Hunter", leading to well over 125,000 views YouTube and the leap to airplay with stations including FBI and Triple J.

Their beautiful self-titled debut E.P leads off with the sublime acoustic gem Miramare through the new single Come Away and banjo stomp of Hold On. The haunting honesty of Facade shows a band capable of writing with genuine emotion and soul. The up tempo California rounds out a perfect set.

The second single "Come Away" is out now.
