Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome marks the third and most blockbuster-y entry in the revered Mad Max trilogy created by the George Miller of yesteryear. As relentless as its predecessors, Mad Max 3 is the sprawling, no-holds barred fantastical vision of the future Miller was finally able to put on screen with a budget that would have funded countless Road Warriors. That it remains so thoroughly entertaining and exhilarating, two decades on, is no mean feat. If anything, it serves as a reminder of how far Australian blockbuster film-making has sunk since.
