?Tower Records was, fittingly, a towering presence in an economic sense and its cultural impact was greater still. They were places where people communed over music, havens for obsessives and weirdos. In 1999, it grossed one billion dollars – the same year Napster was unleashed on the record industry and the same year Tower Records started an unstoppable decline. And though the internet was part of the fall, it's only one part of the whole story. Director Colin Hanks (and interviewees from founder Russ Solomon to Elton John to Chuck D) fills those blanks in this wild, wistful documentary.?
