Fans of iconic alternative rock band Sonic Youth take note; founding member and guitarist LEE RANALDO is heading to our shores with his band for two exclusive shows in Brisbane and Sydney.
These performances coincide with the band's appearance at the Melbourne Festival and see Ranaldo taking the stage with band mates and friends, Steve Shelley and Alan Licht.
The highly acclaimed artist will be touring off the back of his new album Between the Times and the Tides (out now through Remote Control):
'A wealth of rock gems that shine with a warm-hearted, Neil Young-like intensity. Those wanting clangour and dissonance will be disappointed, but everyone else will be pleasantly surprised.' - NME
'Ranaldo's melodies linger like thunder, strong enough to make an impression but letting the instrumental lightning do the stunning.' - Consequence of Sound
Joined by an all-star cast including Nels Cline, Alan Licht, John Medeski, bassist Irwin Menken and long-time associate Steve Shelley, the album is equal parts smart, confident and loose in a manner that recalls some of the best rock 'n' roll... yet still sounds like a fantastic new style.
This year, Ranaldo was ranked as equal #1 guitarist of all time by SPIN magazine, sharing the position with Sonic Youth band mate Thurston Moore.
This accolade joins the many Ranaldo has received as one of the seminal artists of his generation, including also being ranked amongst the greatest guitarists of all time by Rolling Stone Magazine.
Ranaldo is also known as a writer, record producer and visual artist, with his work appearing in countless exhibitions and solo shows. Recent live duo performances with partner Leah Singer, Contre Jour, have been large scale, multi projection quadraphonic sound+light events, w Lee performing suspended electric guitar phenomena.
Before founding Sonic Youth with band mate Thurston Moore he was an art student at Binghamton University. Ranaldo was also a member of Glenn Branca's electric guitar ensemble, touring throughout the United States and Europe.
The band's performance at Sydney's Oxford Art Factory will be supported by Melbourne three-piece Pony Face as special guests.
Featuring Simon Bailey on guitar and vocals, bassist Anth Dymke and drummer Kris Emond, the band have established a name for themselves in the Melbourne music scene and beyond for their hard working ethic and sweeping, blissful soundscapes.
Pony Face's songs build steadily from sparse beginnings to intense and layered tapestries that draw you in to their impeccable storytelling. When brought to life on the live stage, these performances leave audiences hypnotised and enthralled.
These intimate shows are sure to enthral as Lee Ranaldo Band embarks on this Australian tour. Don't miss your chance to see much-admired artist live in concert.
