Twilight at Taronga presents
Kate Miller-Heidke with String Quartet Tickets
6:00pm, Fri 16 March, 2018
Taronga Zoo, NSW
Award-winning singer-songwriter Kate Miller-Heidke is making her Twilight at Taronga debut in 2018, bringing her classically trained alternative pop music sound to the stunning surrounds of Taronga Zoo's natural amphitheatre.
Miller-Heidke has released four studio albums in Australia, including O Vertigo! which debuted at number 4 on the Australian album charts, Nightflight, which reached number 2, and Curiouser, which reached double platinum sales in Australia and spawned the multi-platinum hits 'Last Day On Earth' and 'Caught In The Crowd'.
Trained as a classical singer at the Queensland Conservatorium, Kate has performed at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and in several roles for the English National Opera. Her debut opera as a composer, The Rabbits won 4 Helpmann Awards including Best Score and Best New Australian Work.
With her collaborator Keir Nuttall, she has written the music and lyrics to Muriel's Wedding: The Musical, premiering at the Sydney Theatre Company in November 2017.
Kate is premiering a new set of arrangements by musical maestro Iain Grandage, at the Port Fairy Spring Music Festival in October 2017. These have been adapted to fuse Kate's vocals and piano, and the mad guitar shredding of Keir Nuttall, with the classical stylings of a string quartet and a killer rhythm section. They include adaptations of her well-loved orchestral pieces, as well as some surprises from the back catalogue.
Audiences at Twilight at Taronga can expect to get a sneak peak of some new material, as Kate road-tests songs for her next album.
