AWME 2012 presents an evening of alt-country, stomping old-time blues and cranking brass-band debauchery.
Jordie Lane is a critically acclaimed singer-songwriter who is widely regarded as the leading light of Australia's folk alt-country music scene. A dynamic live performer, Jordie's stage show centres around his story-telling and crowd interaction. In the vein of countryman Colin Hay, his performances shift from folk concert, to comedy show, to rock 'n' roll gig, in the space of two songs. The Perch Creek Family Jugband sing and dance a unique blend of bluegrass, old-time jazz, and country blues. Their signature sound consists of tight five-part vocal harmonies soaring over the down-home sounds of the five-string banjo, washboard, jug, double-bass, harmonicas, saw, trombone, kazoo, ukulele, guitar, melodica and tap-dancing. Flap! Are a fiery yet charming five-piece brass band who crank out up-tempo songs with influences from 1920's jazz, gypsy brass, folk and calypso. From major festivals, to grotty pubs, the band never fails to get an audience dancing.
