Event Details

James Morrison thinks she's the real thing and the greatest gift to Australian jazz singing in a decade. Emma Pask is one of the hundreds of thousands who consider Morrison to be far and away Australia's most virtuosic and unrelentingly entertaining performers. A show with the two together is a Basement favourite with patrons always assured of an evening of mesmerising music, captivating performances, and no doubt a few laughs along the way.

Morrison's contributions to Australian jazz are innumerable. His clout as a multi-instrumentalist performer is evidenced in his recordings and performances around the world - from the great festivals of Montreaux, Pori, North Sea, Nice and Bern, to the Royal Albert hall with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, to the iconic clubs of New York, Paris and London, The Blue Note, Village Vanguard, The New Morning and Ronnie Scotts. He has played with luminaries such as Dizzy Gillespie, Cab Calloway, Woody Shaw, Red Rodney, George Benson, Ray Charles, B.B. King, Ray Brown and Wynton Marsalis, entertained the last two US presidents and featured in two Royal Command performances for Queen Elizabeth II.

Awarded the Order of Australia in 1997 for services to the arts at a youthful 36, Morrison is now undoubtedly one of Australia's greatest musical exports and cultural diplomats. His work as an educator and patron of the arts, along with his innate grasp of rapidly developing technologies have made him one of the most relevant teachers and producers today. His flamboyance and penchant for fast engines, on the road or in the sky have made him a household name, in particular as the new host of the national television show Top Gear Australia.

Over a decade ago on a regular round of schools he heard a voice that made him stop. The young Emma Pask sang with Morrisons band that night, and has done so ever since. Pask is a natural, with a swinging style made great by the classic jazz era of the forties, but with a sweet, unique and distinctive tone all her own.

Her stripes too have been earned with many performances around the world, including with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, the New Zealand Philharmonic, Barbara Morrison, the WA Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Big Band in London and the Phillips International Jazz Festival amongst many others. She was an invited performer at Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's wedding and has remained a popular television regular through her career.

In the final stages of recording her third album, Pask now divides her time between Sydney and New York. With their available time to present a combined show ever diminishing, don't miss this one. James Morrison and Emma Pask together is a swinging, sensational, high calibre musical experience of the highest order.
