If there's one thing you can say about DJ, producer, remixer, band member and solo artist Stuart Price it's that he doesn't stay in one place for too long. "I get motivated about building things up and then knocking it all down and starting again," he says with a grin. "Trying to prove it all over, that's always appealed to me."

In 2007, Stuart set aside his DJing and solo work to concentrate on producing a string of major artists, including the Killers and Take That. Now he's returned to it reinvigorated. "Whenever music starts to feel like a part of a machine it loses the reason I started making music in the first place," he says. "Dance music is about being of the moment. When you produce an album you finish it and six months later people get to hear it. Dance is the antidote to that. You make a track and play it at the weekend. It's great."

In July 2012 he recorded his first ever Radio 1 Essential Mix and he believes he's returning to dance music at a thrilling and uncertain time. "There's something to be found in the chaos and excitement of dance music globally. It's so extreme and Babylonian: the lifestyle, the excess, the morphing of DJs into billboard-adorning marketing experts. When something is spinning so fast there's space for something to splinter off in a new direction."

Price's mantra in every aspect of his work is: "You can't lie through the speakers." Be there on Thursday the 21st to witness the result of this.
