Event Details

Her sophisticated mix of vocal jazz, blues and ballads has been selling out the best jazz clubs and venues around the country. And following on from her sell-out performance here late last year, we’re thrilled to invite the talented Frances Madden to bring her special mix of jazz, blues & classics back to Sydney’s iconic venue, The Basement.

Described by ABC Jazz's Mal Stanley as a talented young vocalist and pianist and 'one to watch', Frances is one of the classiest young entertainers Australia has produced in recent times.

While she's been compared to Diana Krall and Norah jones, Frances captivates her audiences with a combination of her genuinely warm stage presence together with a voice and style that is uniquely her own. She is also a talented and engaging original composer so when she performs her own swinging tunes and beautiful ballads, they merge seamlessly with the timeless classics she covers.

As jazz legend James Morrison put it: "Frances has a wonderful feeling for jazz and blues standards but what makes her a real stand-out are her original songs and unique style".

Matt Bailey from Sydney's Fine Music 102.5 FM said "Frances' music is a river of original and heartfelt material, a truly creative force not just in the jazz idiom but also as a genuine contemporary songwriter."

Frances will play the Basement on Saturday 19 March, 2016 as part of her eight piece band. As well as Frances on vocals and piano, the line-up for the show features acclaimed Sydney saxophone player Jason Bruer on tenor and also Wangaratta Jazz Festival finalist Peter Koopman on guitar.

Frances says "we have a wonderful show planned for The Basement which includes some swing, some ballads, some blues, some Bacharach and maybe a little R&B to finish the night. We'll also be launching a couple of brand new tunes for their first public outing! There will be something for everyone, so bring some friends along for dinner and we promise to make it an evening you'll enjoy."

The line-up for The Basement includes:

  • Frances Madden on piano & vocals
  • Peter Koopman on guitar
  • Tim Geldens on drums
  • Peter Kolhoff on double bass
  • Jason Bruer on tenor sax
  • Paul Murchison on trumpet
  • Borbala Bodonyi (Bobo) and Kelly Chan on backing vocals

Frances Madden & Band at The Basement on Saturday 19 March, 2016. Doors open at 7.30 for dinner. Show commences 9pm.
